chance control
(2009)
My work continually asks questions about the nature of our perception and systems of understanding. Using forms related to naïve discovery, such as the kite and the paper boat I am able to pose questions of absurdity from a palpable standpoint.
Here I have used the paper fortuneteller. These forms traditionally hold a system of both good and bad fortunes, in which the player, if she knows the game, can control the fortune. If the player holds no understanding of the game then she is bound to chance. It is this acquisition and reliance on a contrived system that I see as provocative.
